About Deon
I am a wellness speaker, academic coach and also a tutor. I have been tutoring for 2 years. I tutored a Gr 11 and 12 and also facilitated two primary homeschooled boys. We reached big success in Gr 11 and 12 marks, but more than that he had n new attitude towards school and homework. His parents are pleased.
For the past six years, I also teach the fifth-year medical students the responsibility of the patient in their own health. I speak to them about mental wellness and I do this at Vista Clinic in Centurion.

I let my students read the assignment and explain to me what he/she understands under it. If they missed something I'll kindly ask: Are you sure? Have a look at this word first, find the meaning and go back to the original question. I like to unravel the question with the student and build the answer around what we then undersstan.d under the question. I also like to discuss the work and questions and then challenge them to make it practical in their daily lives.
Many students have difficulty reading and so I do one of two things: I would then read in another language and then they need to explain in the home language. I also take a cookbook to do the same - they read in another language the method and then explain the recipe in the home language.
When it comes to studies I believe in summaries that are in question/answer form. In other words, taking a fact and make a question out of it with a proper answer. I study with my students so iI know what is difficult for them to learn. In those cases, I find what works for the student, color, abbreviations, rhymes, anything creative to help them remember.
I also make time to focus on the student as a person. where they are at, what are their challenges and questions. I help then to cope with daily stress and listen to them. Patients are one of my strongest qualities. I will sit with my students until they understand their work.
