About Leighton
My teaching approach focuses on helping each singer build a strong, healthy, and expressive voice. I begin with fundamentals like posture alignment, breath support, and vocal placement to create a solid foundation. From there, we work on diction shaping, tone clarity, and musical interpretation, so every phrase is clear and expressive. I combine technique with creativity, helping singers connect emotionally to the music. For those performing in ensembles, I guide singers on choral blend, harmonising, and listening skills to ensure a polished, unified sound. Soloists also receive attention on character interpretation, stage presence, and conveying emotion through every note. I support singers in navigating challenging repertoire while maintaining vocal health and style. I enjoy working with dedicated adult singers and experienced performers, helping them refine their craft and shine in group or solo settings. Lessons are personalised, patient, and focused on clear, achievable goals. Whether preparing for a concert, theatre performance, or personal growth, I emphasise both technical skill and artistic expression.

I’m a voice teacher with over 5 years of experience and a Bachelor of Music Education with a focus in voice. I’m passionate about helping singers tell stories through music, using phrasing, tone, and emotion to bring each song to life. My favourite repertoire includes Jazz Standards, Broadway solos, and the timeless pieces of the Golden Age. These styles allow singers to explore nuance, character, and emotional depth in every performance. I specialise in swing phrasing, jazz ornamentation, and character interpretation, helping students find their unique voice and style. Lead sheet reading is also a key part of my teaching, so you can confidently interpret and perform music in your own way. I love guiding passionate adults, seasoned singers, and community theatre actors to refine their skills and elevate their performances. In my lessons, we focus on technical precision while nurturing creativity and expression. I work on tone, phrasing, and storytelling to help each singer connect deeply with the music. Every voice is unique, and I tailor my approach to highlight your strengths and goals. Whether preparing for the stage or singing for joy, I provide a supportive and inspiring space to grow.
