About Gerry
Initially trained to degree level as a production engineer and after several years in industry, I have been very successfully teaching to GCSE level for over 27 years in secondary schools. Starting as a design and technology teacher and then moving into maths and computing within a few years. I have been a subject head and faculty leader for teachers in multiple STEM subjects, for many years. In addition, I coach kayaking and canoeing at our local canoe club.
Clearly teaching and the love of knowledge runs deep. This breadth and depth of experience benefits both the students self esteem and their academic outcomes.

Each student is different, requiring an understanding of what motivates them. Lessons are customised to inspire the students by relating it to something they are interested in. Whether maths or computing, motivation is the key.
Starting with getting to know the students interests, academic ability and how they want to use their qualifications, a plan is developed. Initially by identifying the most effective topics to gain qualification success in and then working to make it relevant and exciting to them. Encouraging small manageable steps to success is crucial for motivation and enjoyment. With gentle feedback and over a number of lessons this builds to an improvement in the picture of academic achievement and in the results in their exam.
