About Qianhan (Q)

你好! I’m Qianhan (Q) and let me be your private tutor so that you will excel at learning and mastering the fascinating language of Mandarin in no time - making it easy and fun. I was born and raised in China and lived in Europe for 20 years before coming to Australia. I’m a language lover, HR professional, and a communications coach. Language to me is a tool to communicate and communication is one of the most powerful skills that we as humans possess. Done effectively, it will open many opportunities, build long-lasting friendships and turn everyday encounters into life-changing experiences. With every language (and cultural exposure) you will open a new door and a new world! So with literally every 1/5 people on the planet being a Mandarin speaker, the world would be your playground! Over the years I’ve guided many students from getting started with Pinyin to preparing them for their move to China; mastering pronunciations; becoming a more effective communicator; learning about the culture to expanding on their vocabulary and beyond. I’ve had the opportunity and privilege to live in 7 different countries and know what it takes to remove the barriers of language and to connect with people on a deep level. I look forward to guiding you on the journey of my own heritage and beyond. Q

About the lesson

My personal teaching philosophy and tutoring method are based on 5 key points:

1) Empowerment for expression and creativity.
Have you ever wondered why children learn so much faster? Did you know that study shows over 90% of communication actually happens non-verbally? With the right support, exercises and safe-space you can do the same.

2) Communication over perfection!
This is not to say that grammar isn’t important but what’s a lot more important is to understand others and be understood. My primary job is to make you / your child feel comfortable and confident in expressing and we’ll take the details one at a time.

3) Personalization and interest-based learning.
Everyone is different and learns best in their own ways. With me, we will define and focus on the HOW that works best for you. This is not to neglect the rest or to disregard all structure / curriculum but it will give you the confidence to get started and the momentum to keep going!

4) Real-life experiences and culture.
Learned and mastering a language is never isolated - it always goes hand-in-hand with the culture and the people. Besides the theory, we will undertake plenty of real-life exposures and activities to put into practice and deepen what you have learnt.

5) Practice, practice, practice.
Like with anything, practice makes the difference and so is mastering Mandarin Chinese. With me you will have plenty of opportunities to apply what you’ve learnt and make communication in Mandarin become like second nature.

Get in touch, let’s meet / do a trial and get started!

Warmest,
Q

Q is an exceptional coach when it comes to interview preparations and career advancement. Thanks to his coaching and dedicated training / role-playing sessions, I was able to land my dream job in just a few weeks!

He provides extremely targeted and personalized support in optimizing my CV, job applications and interview preparations. He always finds the right words, questions and answers and I no longer feel tremendous anxiety before and during interviews.

What particularly sets him apart is his patience, expertise in recruiting and his incredibly pleasant and encouraging manner. Beyond the preparations, he helped me to build my own confidence and identity career paths that I actually find deeply rewarding. He remains calm and motivating even when you are stuck at the same point for the fifth time.

Lastly, he is also open-minded and has a great sense of humor - you learn a lot, laugh a lot and occasionally wonder why career advice can't always be fun and so relaxed. I recommend Q both professionally and personally.

Highly recommend Q for learning Mandarin! As a native Mandarin speaker with a strong command of English, Q makes learning the language so much easier. He is incredibly patient, always willing to re-explain concepts, and tailors lessons to your pace and style. Every session is engaging, practical, and fun. I learned so much in a short time. Whether you’re a beginner or looking to improve your fluency, Q is an excellent teacher.
